Meet The Team

Dongyan Tan, Ph.D.
Dr. Tan, originally from China, obtained her Bachelor degree in Life Science from Sun Yat-Sen University in China and her Ph.D. in Biophysics and Physiology from Albert Einstein School of Medicine. She later completed her postdoctoral training in Structural Biology and electron microscopy at Harvard Medical School. In 2016, Dr. Tan began her independent career in Stony Brook University.

Her passion for science began in middle school, where she developed an interest in math and physics. Over time, her fascination with biology grew, driven by her curiosity about how things work, ultimately inspiring her to pursue a career in biomedical research. As a structural biologist, she is captivated by how protein structures provide unique insights and solutions to longstanding biological questions.

Today, Dr. Tan finds fulfillment in shaping her research by addressing compelling scientific challenges, mentoring students and postdoctoral researchers as they develop into independent scientists, and leveraging her expertise to promote educational accessibility.
